Job

Hello readers! I am sorry for not writing on my blog for a month because I am committed to a job. I will not have time to blog every day and blogging a week will be my schedule from now on. I worked at the National Environment agency (NEA), a government agency. My job is as a Temporary Environmental Health Assistant for three months. The agency oversees the environmental conditions in Singapore ensuring the Singapore’s population to be aware of the dangers the environment posed. It is in charge of the land, water and air conditions making sure it is safe for the population and also the natural habitat.

I had worked for three days now and I think the job is pretty straightforward apart from the tiredness which accompanies you when you work. I work from 8:30am to 6pm from Mondays to Thursdays and to 5:30pm on Fridays but I get to knock off from 3pm onwards when we are done for the day. I am very thankful for this job and the privilege which it bestows on me because the salary was around $1800+. This is a high salary considering this is the first job which I have. I can consider myself lucky at this moment. There are no jobs in this country that have quite a high pay by my standards and going home in the early afternoon when the rest of Singapore are still working. Of course, this salary will not be enough for people who wants to live a luxurious lifestyle and I’m content with it. I am planning to save at least $1000 every month for a rainy day. I am a chronic saver by the way.

I am now in a training phase for two weeks (I get pay when in training. This is like heavens!!!!!!!!) tagging along with the permanent staff to sites throughout Singapore. I noticed that my job scope is inspecting whether there are mosquitoes inside the gravitraps (black circular trap containers) placed outside common corridors in Housing Development Board (HDB) when observing the staffs at work. The traps comprises of two separate circular containers which fit each other. The top container have a type of small ring which juts out of the tip of it as a stopper for the container to hang itself. Its inner surface has a sticky thing called the glue lining            wrapped around it. The container’s size is quite small so much so that the residents will not noticed it being there. At the base of the top container, it has a net. The bottom container has two small holes on the same level as the base of the top container. The container was filled with hay infusion water. I don’t know if I can divulge the information behind the designs and the things on the container. It is best if I don’t I think.

That is it for this blog post. Stay tuned for next week’s post!!! So long, readers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honesty

This word embodies the kind of characteristics that I have built in me all my life. I even jeopardize my positon by being honest by myself. In secondary school, the students are not supposed to change seats with each other in the classroom. The form teacher chooses who did we sit with and we cannot choose our friends to sit with. A small blue square desk and a chair of the same colour was allocated to one student. The desks and chairs were arranged in groups of two side by side with a space on all sides of them for students to walk by.

On this particular day, in between lessons when the present teacher went to the next class and the next teacher bound for this class, our class decided to change seats. I hesitated to change because I am a prefect and following the whims of my class will get me punished if my form and co-form teachers found out. The other reason is also because if I did not follow their instructions, I am afraid I will be beaten or harassed by them. I wonder to this day why I am not firm and bold enough to say ‘no’ to them. I had no choice but my change my seat to another place so the other person got temporary enjoyment with his company.

Unfortunately, my teachers came to know about some students changing seats in the class. Here is the thing. I am a prefect and I can lie to them that I did not change seat and get away unscathed. Every teacher believes that whoever is a prefect will not do bad things and follow the school rules. I said to the teachers truthfully and without flinching that I change seat with another person. My classmate kept whispering to me, “Don’t say that you change”, but I ignored his pleas. In terms of honesty, no one person can rival me accept, in my opinion, the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

As a result, I got punished and must write several sentences worth of one paper, “I vow never to change seats with my friends ever again”. I am the only prefect being punished. I knew some of my classmates got away to escape the punishment but I do not care about them at that time. My friends looked at me pitifully from outside the classroom but I am sure in their hearts they said this was one brutally honest prefect without caring for the consequences.

Hardworking characteristics

Hi guys!!! Im back!!! I want to write about myself as a person although I already write about it on the front page on my blog. Think about this post as an updated characteristics of me and a detailed one as well. I will post each characteristics every day until it is finished.

I am a very hardworking person but not very smart. My reading speed decreases over the years and I am distraught about it. This is because reading is my hobby before gaming on a laptop becomes the norm for me in recent years. I have difficulty understanding and concentrating on sentences and I must re-read them over and over again to understand it. It took an hour just to finish a page of the novel whereas last time I can read it in 10-20 pages. I realised that I cannot read when I am 17 years of age. I was reading a newspaper and suddenly I am stuck on a sentence reading very slowly ever since. I am a sort of person who does not gives up easily when trouble comes. Every morning, I make a point to read the newspaper or a novel for 2 hours to improve on my concentration and understanding. Alhamdulilah, today I have announced that I read it smoother and comfortably. My efforts had paid off. This shows with much hard work put into solving your own weakness, you can eventually succeed.  I advise all of you not to give and persevere whatever problems come what may.

Comback to blogging

It had been many months since I wrote my last blog post. Afiq here!!!!! There had many changes to my life since then. I had graduated from Singapore Polytechnic and currently waiting to be officially graduated in the graduation ceremony on 19 May. I am looking forward to that day when I will proudly stand with my family wearing the honourable graduation gown taking a family picture. The mental stress which I had go through during my 3 years of poly life had finally paid off with perseverance, commitment and determination. Before the ceremony, I need to rent the gown which I had booked a date to collect and pay it at Serangoon Broadwayshop several metres away from Potong Pasir MRT station.

I am now idling in my home currently waiting to hear from a job that I applied three weeks ago. The reason why I want to work because I don’t like to waste my time away at home although I can do useful activities like writing a blog as I do now and perform my prayers freely without giving it up due to work practices that prevent me from doing so.  The other reason is because I am waiting for the National Service (NS) to start. Every young male Singaporeans from the age of 18 must serve NS to have military experience defending Singapore. I was chosen to be in the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), a branch of the NS. I must stay at the bunk at the headquarters for 13 weeks as a PES BP recruit. I did not know the meaning of PES but I do know that this is a system classifying the recruits depending on their fitness levels. The fitter the recruits are, the shorter their stay at NS. Unfortunately, I am at the lower range of the level. The officers at the headquarters will probably drill us with tortuous exercises so as to reduce our weight during our stay there. The exercises may include running several kilometres, push ups and sit ups. If this piece of information that I had conveyed is true, I will be very delighted as I am strong in my belief to lose weight.

Speaking about losing weight, I had lose more than 10kg of my body weight. This is in itself a tremendous lifetime achievement for me as I am overweight starting from 15 years old and never been able to lose weight ever since. I made trials and errors on my exercise and diet regimen. I jogged every 5 days at the Tiong Bahru Park after my Fajr prayers. Each round in the park is 650m. I tend to increase my jogging pace for the first four rounds as this is the distance in which I need to excel in to pass my 2.4km run. I trained my legs for many months but could increase my stamina to be able to at least pass the threshold for the passing grade. My body always perspire effortlessly after I had completed my rounds. When I do something, I make sure that I do my best so as to achieve the best results. My diet regimen consists of eating fruits such as oranges and bananas every morning and eating little rice as possible. Sometimes my mother brought home delicious foods and of course I could not hold from eating it. This is one of the factors why my weight stagnated after losing 10kg. Although there was body weight loss, it was not enough. I still had a small bulge along my stomach. I am a bit disappointed and frustrated but it is a reminder that life is full of ups and downs. That was why I cannot wait to be enlisted into SCDF as soon as possible to start “Operation Thinning and Muscular”.

I am also anxiously waiting to have a job from the Singapore job agency, Bridging Growth and Careers. The job is called Temporary Environmental Officer. I like the word officer in the job title because it relates to a high rank in the army where people respect you with a salute. But the job is not that kind. It is more of an outdoor job going from HDB flat to another in a particular area to check whether the residents accidentally breed mosquitos because there are stagnant water lying around in the flat. The stagnant water is generally found in pails inside the toilet and pole holder for hanging clothes outside. This jobs requires speaking to residents and I like it because it gives me the opportunity to improve on my communication skills. This skill is very important to have if you want to succeed in life in having better relationships with your bosses so you can be promoted faster. In addition to that, you can acquire public speaking skills and not be afraid to speak to crowds. My mediator, Mr Gary, is from the government agency who kindly guides me through the process of finding the right job for me and the interview process. I was elated when I received a call from him two weeks ago that my chances of landing in this job was positive. Sometimes, I felt that I wait for the job for too long and was thinking that the agency kept quiet from me because they lied to me I can get a job.

I think I have write too long for this blog post. I promised to you audience that I write on my blog more frequently to keep you entertained and very sorry for long absence in my blog. So long my friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comeback to blogging

Its been three years since I had write a blog. A lot of things had changed then. I graduated from ITE to Polytechnic and now I had my own smartphone! Time flies so fast and I'm in my third year. I had struggled to maintain my GPA just above 3.0 from the previous two years because of my complacency of getting 3.5 in my first semester in first year. Since then, my grades had dropped. Fortunately, last semester I managed to maintain my GPA. Currently, I had been hooked by the Japanese anime One Piece introduced by my muscular classmates, Zayyani. This animation is about a crew of pirates going about an adventure throughout through countless episodes. I am on episod 270+. The characters which I like are Monkey.D.Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, Chopper, Nami, Usopp and Nico Robin. They are the incredible Straw Hat pirates. They had immense loyalty towards each other fighting other pirates and the Marines. I will talk about the series when I finish the whole 640+ episodes. During this semester, I took subjects concerning with control. They are System & Control, Sensor and Instrumentation, Fieldbus Technology, Network Control Application and Final Year Project. Of all these subjects, S &C is the most hardest of all because it had laplace transform and manpulation of algebraic functions.

Hehe

I read FBT book for about 1 hour today.

Fieldbus Technology
1st quiz: 80 points
2nd quiz: 90 points

While doing these quizzes, I refer to the book of course.

Today is my last day of the Semester in ITE College West. Furthermore, I am also looking forward to my Industrial Attachment next week. I can't wait to work next week as this is my first time working at the Otis Elevator Pte Ltd. In my opinion, this company specialise in building or repairing the escalators or lifts. I should be learning about motors as the components are inside the big gadgets.
My first lesson in school is Lifeskills. Let me explain to you what is lifeskills all about. Lifeskills is a subject in ITE that the O-level students entering Higher Nitec must take. Although the subject does not affect my GPA, I always take pride with my work and be responsible for it. The subject is commonly being refered to module. GPA is a marking system whereby 1 is the lowest marks and 4 is the highest marks in ITE. Lifeskills test our soft skills such as presentation of something to the class and working together as a team. This module would like us to be more presentable in future such that we can hold interviews with our prospective employers.
In my Lifeskills today, we must present our product to the whole class. I, Muzhafar and Kathleen were in one group. Unfortunately, Kathleen cannot be with us as she was away in Harbin, China. As a result, I and Muzhafar were the only one to present. Our group name is Early Birds and the project title is Fall Alert. Fall Alert is a device to help the elderly to prevent the seriousness of falls. The device looks like a watch and inside it contains a buzzer and a push button. When the elderly falls, the person push the button on the watch and the buzzer will sound. Hopefully, there will be passers-by around to hear the alarm and comes towards the elderly. My lifeskills teacher, Mr Ernest, told my group about the prototype of the product. Unfortunately, we had not build it. I gave the reasons as being stress as to handle two other modules at one time and the most important Final Year Project. If we do not have the prototype, our grade will only be C and this will not be reflected well on the results statement. Our group must build the prototype within this holiday or we will not get a B grade. This was a depressing moment for me as the I have zero experience of making something and will be impossible to do. Since I had the Industrial Attachment that almost take most of the holidays, I will not be able to help him. I am devastated.
Later, our two friends from a different group, Hussein and Ramesh, present their projects to us. It was named Game Addiction. Theirs, was a very easy project to do as they need not do a prototype. Their product is only a blog filled with useful information about their project. I will continue..... next Lonworks
